The MUMC Mission

To share Christ’s love through praising God in worship, fellowship, and service.

The MUMC Vision

A community of love and forgiveness, living according to the example of Christ.

Our Beliefs

United Methodists are a people of faith rooted in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. We believe in one God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit –who is active in our world, offering grace to all. At the heart of our belief is God’s love, which we receive freely and are called to share with others. United Methodists hold the Bible as the inspired Word of God and the guide for faith and life. We emphasize God’s grace: prevenient (drawing us to God), justifying (forgiving our sins), and sanctifying (transforming us into Christ’s likeness).

Being a United Methodist means belonging to a worldwide Christian movement that seeks to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We believe faith is not just private but also social. Our founder, John Wesley, taught that “there is no holiness but social holiness” – meaning our spiritual growth is tied to how we care for others. This leads us to work for justice, show mercy, and serve those in need. We strive to live out our faith by loving God and neighbor through acts of compassion, advocacy, and service.

We serve all people. United Methodists open our hearts and hands to the poor, the marginalized, the lonely, and the hurting. Our mission fields include churches, schools, shelters, hospitals, disaster zones, and anywhere love is needed. We do not serve to gain status, but to reflect God’s grace, believing that every person is of sacred worth.

Our motto – “Open hearts, open minds, open doors” – expresses the spirit of welcome and inclusivity that defines our faith community. It means we welcome all, regardless of race, gender, age, background, or belief. We open our hearts to love, our minds to learning, and our doors to all who seek meaning and belonging.

In summary, to be a United Methodist is to believe in God’s grace, to follow Jesus, to grow in personal and social holiness, and to serve others in love.

It means being part of a connectional church – a church that unites people across neighborhoods and nations for the sake of the gospel. With open hearts, minds, and doors, we seek to embody God’s kingdom here and now, trusting in the hope of a future shaped by love, peace, and justice.
